Minty, Melanie and Angela

March 1st, 2000

The series was shot on digital betacam over 11 weeks in Perth, Western Australia, in the summer of 1998. Post production was done at Scottish Television in Glasgow, Scotland.

One of the biggest hurdles to overcome was to find suitable locations in Perth during the hot summer months that could also be convincing as the United Kingdom. At one point there was even a need to re-create a Scottish Castle.

The casting of the lead role was also a difficult and time consuming process, and we searched across Australia and the United Kingdom to find the right person. Someone who could act, sing and convincingly do an Australian and English accent was not easy. At one point we considered using twins, but decided part of the charm of the story was knowing that the same person was playing all roles.

In the end we chose Angela Kelly, a graduate from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She had to play five different characters, which meant, over the course of the series, she was virtually in every single scene.
